The last two days were spent learning expectations and procedures for the classroom, hallways, lunchroom, bathroom, and playground. It has been a lot to take in for everyone but the kids are catching on very quickly! We have also taken tours around the school to help us find the office, nurses office, and special classes. We will have a different special class every day. Our special class schedule looks like this: Monday- PE (Please send your child in tennis shoes), Tuesday- Art, Wednesday- Library, Thursday- Music, and Friday- Computers.
Every week we will have a theme that we will base activities around. Next week our theme is going to be Citizenship and Rules. We will learn about what it means to be bucket fillers and how to be good friends. In Math, we will begin our Envisions curriculum and be learning about numbers 0-5. In Writing, we will be learning what good writers do as well as establishing a routine for Writer's Workshop. For our Reading Block, or STAR time, we will begin introducing the Daily 5. Daily 5 consists of Read to Self, Read to Someone, Listen to Reading, Work on Writing, and Word Work. We will begin by learning 3 ways to read a book and building our reading stamina!
Please remember to send a small snack with your child each day. We have a short snack time, but do not share snacks this year due to a variety of food allergies. It is also very hot outside and I want your kiddos to drink lots of water! That being said, if you would like to send a water bottle to school for your child to keep in their cubby, that would be great!
There were a couple different school supply lists that were sent out over the summer. Because of this, some students are missing some supplies that we will be needing. Your child will be needing their own set of headphones this year and a spiral notebook. Any other differences in the lists, I'm not really concerned about and what you sent in is fine! I'm sorry for the confusion!
I am looking forward to a wonderful year!
