Check out the Reading Corner tab on our blog to hear Hannah from our class sharing a Christmas book! What a busy week! We had so much fun learning with all of our Grinch and Christmas activities! I will upload a video of the students reading what they wrote about how the Grinch makes them feel! Today the students made Christmas ornaments after we read the book Cobweb Ornaments to remind their parents and families of what they looked like in Kindergarten. They turned out great! I'm excited for everyone to see them, but not until or Winter Party :) These are gifts from your child to you! Next week is only two and a half days! Super Tiger will be at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon. Our Winter Party will be at 8:40 Wednesday morning. Join us if you can! We will be doing a few more Christmas activities next week including making reindeer food! I hope everyone has a wonderful week like us! Enjoy the weekend! This week has gotten off to a great start! Our theme this week is Christmas/How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Every day we are doing a fun activity that will teach one of our six writing traits and revolve around our Grinch theme. Yesterday, we read the story How the Grinch Stole Chrismas and discussed the main idea and details in the story. Today, we had a blast working on organizing our writing by writing the recipe for Who-Pudding. We also made who pudding and enjoyed the Who-Ville treat! Tomorrow, we will be talking about voice in writing and writing a piece about how the Grinch makes us feel. We will also be making Christmas cards and ornaments this week as well as learning about the difference between needs and wants.
In Math, we are continuing on with our shape unit. We will be doing activities like making shape murals, pattern block puzzles, fill in the hexagon, and combining shapes. Don't forget our Winter Party will be Wednesday, December 21st! Come join us if you can! I know it will be a ton of fun! This day is going to be Pajama Day as well so feel free to come in your jammies :) If you would like to recieve a December Scholastic Book Order, let me know and I will send one home with your student tomorrow. These books would make wonderful Christmas gifts and to ensure that you recieve them before break, I will ask for them to be returned on Monday. I realize this is short notice, but if you would like a Book Order anyway, send me a quick email and I will send one with your child today or tomorrow. Thanks!
Just a reminder, our class will be going to the Santa Shop tomorrow! If you would like your child to purchase gifts for family and/or friends, please send the form I sent home on Friday back to school with a list of people you want your child to shop for and money.
Ok, let's try this again. Here's the video with a new song. Hopefully it works. It works on my end, but then again, so did the last one. Unfortunately, there is an issue with the Gingerbread video I posted this weekend. I believe it has something to do with the song I orignally put with the video, so I am going to change the song a re-post it this afternoon.
On Friday, the kids got to decorate gingerbread cookies and it was sooo much fun! Before we decorated cookies, we read The Gingerbread Baby by Jan Brett and compared it with four other gingerbread books we've read this week. Watch the video at the end of this post to see their decorating skills in action!
Next week, we will begin our Christmas unit, in Math, we will begin taking an in depth look at shapes, and in writitng we will learn and practice how and why to make lists. Our class will be going to the Santa Shop on Tuesday as well! If you would like your child to purchase gifts for family or friends please send money along with the form I sent home in their Take Home Folder. The Santa Shop is very exciting for the kids! They love to surprise their family with gifts and it also teaches them a good lesson in handling money. Our kids came up with some great costumes as they dressed up like their favorite storybook characters! Check these pictures to see some of their costumes and see if you can figure out what story they came from! |
