I did not send home a list of spelling words this week, but will definitely do so tomorrow. In case you want to get started practicing those words, our list for this week is: one, out, see, and my. Don't forget Parent Teacher Conferences start tomorrow! It was a little cold, but we had a great time at the pumpkin patch today! The kids got to go on a hayride, pick out a pumpkin and paint it, go through a corn maze, ride a train, and have a chilly picnic lunch! We had so much fun! Thank you so much to all of the parents that came along! Your help is very appreciated! Check back later this weekend to see some pictures from our field trip!
Next week, we will continue with our pumpkin unit and do several sequencing activities about how a pumpkin grows. In math, we will continue to compare different amounts and discuss ways to compare groups of objects. In writing, we will begin working with conventions and adding punctuation to our writing. Don't forget Parent Teacher Conferences this coming Tuesday and Thursday. I'm looking forward to meeting with all of you! Can you believe 1st quarter is already over?! I know I can't! Since we are now into 2nd quarter, our new schedule for special classes has started. Our week now looks like this: Monday-Art, Tuesday-PE, Wednesday-Computers, Thursday- Music, and Friday- PE. Please make sure your student wears or brings tennis shoes on Tuesdays and Fridays for PE. With 1st quarter ending, it is also time for Parent Teacher Conferences which will be next Tuesday the 23rd and Thursday. I will send home a reminder form with the date and time you signed up for on Meet the Teacher Night. If this time no longer works for you, just let me know and we can reschedule.
Our field trip will be this Friday and we are all getting VERY excited! PLEASE make sure your child's permission slip AND $6 is turned in by TOMORROW! Please make sure to send in your child's money and permission slip on Monday.
In math next week, we will be counting and comparing amounts. During our intervention time, we have began a program called Rocket Math. In Rocket Math, student practice writing their number in a timed test. Once they write all the numbers correctly during the timed test, they will b Since today was a half day, we unfortunately were unable to get to a book treasure for lack of time. Thank you to the parents and students who have sent in headphones so far! Those students have been able to enjoy the iPads these last couple of days. I am pleased to announce that we will be recieving a set of 5 iPads in our classroom for the students to use! We will use them during Daily 5 for Listening, Word Work, and Work on Writing activities as well as in small literacy groups. I would like to ask each family to send in a pair of headphones or earbuds that can be used with the iPads. The headphones you send will only be used by YOUR child. For health reasons, I do not want the students to be sharing headphones or earbuds. When your student brings in thier headphones, I will label them and put them in their own individual Ziploc bag (also labeled) and when it is your child's turn to use the iPad they will get THEIR headphones and work away. :) Headphones can be found for fairly inexpensive at WalMart or Dollar General. I really appreciate your support and the sooner we have headphones, the sooner we can begin utilizing these wonderful learning tools!
I sent home a book treasure in your child's folder, but I forgot to send home the response form. Since I forgot the paper, I will be putting a response form under the book treasure tab of our blog along with the story we read. Please fill this one out instead of a paper copy this week. I will respond this week via email to give you and your child feedback about their reflection. Feedback is an important tool in the learning process so please make sure to share the feedback you receive with your child! Thank you sooo much!
We wrapped up our Apple Unit this week with some delicious apple pies! Thank you so much again to all the families who donated supplies! These last too weeks would not have been such a great success without your help!
Next week, we are starting our Seasons Unit. Our focus will be on fall, but we will be learning about the other three seasons as well. Most of our writing activities next week are going to be focused on the fall theme with fall poetry and fall descriptive writing. In Math next week, we will be starting a measuring unit where we will measure a variety of objects and compare lengths. Thank you so much for all that came to McTeacher Night! We made over $600 that will be split between grades K,1, and 2 and put towards our field trip and other activities. Reminder: Friday- Half Day of School Have a wonderful weekend end and stay warm! Just a reminder that tomorrow night is McTeacher Night at the McDonalds in Willard. McTeacher Night will be from 4-7 and you are welcome to come between that time. I will be there from 5 to 6 so stop by, say hi, and enjoy dinner! Profits we make from McTeacher Night will help us pay for our upcoming field trip to the Pumpkin Patch and Corn Maze. The class with the most participation also will recieve a free Happy Meal party at school! I can't wait to see you all there!
