When we return this week, we will begin our Gingerbread unit! We will begin an exciting geography project this unit that will extend through next quarter! I will be sending more information home this week about this project so keep your eyes peeled. We will also be revisiting measuring in math as we measure gingerbread men with non standard units and measure objects with gingerbread rulers. In writing, we will be revisiting what good writers do and how to add more to our writing. We will also touch on word choice in writing and using descriptive words. To wrap up this unit on Friday we will be devoting gingerbread cookies! I will be sending notes home tomorrow asking for items to decorate our cookies. If cannot donate the item I assign don't worry about! If an item is not sent in by Thursday, I will make a run to the store that evening so we will not go without! :)
Believe it or not, it's time to start 2nd quarter assessments! This week I will be starting the DRA reading assessments. Please make sure to continue reading with your students at home. The more practice they get, the better! The students will also be writing a narrative piece independently for their writing assessment. Encourage your writer at home to stretch out words, use finger spaces between words, and add lots of details!
Book orders are due Tuesday, December 1st. Books make fantastic Christmas gifts! If you would like your books to be gifts for your student, let me know and I can hold on to them and get them to you at another time so your kiddo will be surprised on Christmas morning!
I'm very excited for the next few weeks! We're going to have a blast in the classroom!
Here are a few pictures of our pilgrims and Indians from last week...
