I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your families! Today at school, we had a Thanksgiving Feast at lunch! When we get back from break, we are going to hit the ground running with our Gingerbread Unit and start on subtraction in Math. We will also keep pushing forward in guided reading a writing narratives!
I am so thankful for each and everyone of my wonderful students! Thank you for everything you do at home to make them the amazing kids that they are! Hi everyone! This week we learned about Pilgrims and how people lived long ago and compared it to how we live today. Be sure to check out the video or our class making butter at the end of this post! Next week is a two day week! In those two days we will finish up with a few Thanksgiving activities and wrap up our addition unit in math. Give your child a few addition word problems (with sums 10 or less) and see if they can solve them! Keep having your child read the paper guided reading books to you at home. As soon as you sign the reading log in their folder, I will send a new book home. The more the kids read, the better! Have a great weekend! Another busy week in Kindergarten! We had a lot of fun learning about the Native American Indians who welcomed the Pilgrims when they arrived in America. We read several interesting books and created our own pictograph writing and paintings of the beautiful sunset just like Little Gopher in the book "The Legend of the Indian Paintbrush." To wrap up the week we practiced creating and identifying patterns and made Indian headbands! Check out the pictures of our own little Indian girls and boys at then end of this post. Next week, we will be learning about Pilgrims and their voyage to the new land. In Math, we will be focusing on addition story problems. By the way, I am SOOO thrilled with how quickly the students are picking up on addition. Many are soaring through rocket math! In Writing next week, we will be focusing on writing amazing beginnings and ending stories with feeling! We will also practice some persuasive writing by reading the story "The Plump and Perky Turkey" and convincing the audience to eat something other than turkey on Thanksgiving Day. Make sure to ask your students about the reading strategies we are working on at school! When we get to a tricky word, we get our mouth ready to say the first sound (Lips the Fish), and we can say the word slowly and stretch it out (Stretchy Snake.) You can use these strategies at home too as you're reading with your child! Have a happy, happy, happy weekend!! This week flew by! We had a great week discussing the different days of the week and months in the year. Next week, we will be learning about Indians. We will get be doing a pictograph writing, making a dream catcher, and creating a painting like in the book Legend of the Indian Paintbrush. In Math, we are really focusing on addition and addition word problems. In Writing, we will be working on convention and using tools like a vowel chart and word wall to make our writing even better! In Reading we will be working on saying the word slowly to help us figure out a tricky word. We will also be working on recognizing and creating rhyme! Make sure you are having your child read with you the books I have been sending home in their BEE book. After read the book, sign the reading log and I will send you a new book home. We have a very full week ahead of us!
I will be placing the Scholastic Book Orders today after school so keep your eyes pealed for your student's brand new books towards the end of next week. Have a wonderful weekend! Today was our Fall Party and the kids had a blast! Check out the pictures at the end of this post to see all the fun we had! Next week, we will be learning about the days of the week and months of the year. In writing, we will be using checklists to make our writing even better! In reading, we will begin learning reading strategies that will help us when we are reading. Strategies like getting your mouth ready for the first sound in the word and using the pictures on the page will help students when they get to tricky words as they read. In Math, we are going to be diving into addition. We will be playing numerous math games like Roll and Record 2 and Collect 10 to help us grasp the meaning of addition. Book orders went home today and will be due back by Friday, November 8th. There are lots of good Thanksgiving books in there that would be worth checking our for your kiddo! Reminder: No School on Tuesday, November 5th. Have a wonderful weekend!! Fall Party Pics |
