Enjoy the holiday with your families! I hope you all enjoy your feasts as much as the kids enjoyed ours!
It's so hard to believe that Thanksgiving is right around the corner! This week, we've learned about Native Americans and made pictograph writings. We also learned about Pilgrims and the Mayflower and made our very own Mayflower. Next week is a short week and we are going to be celebrating Thanksgiving in Kindergarten. On Monday, we are going to have a Thanksgiving feast with the other two Kindergarten classes! We are going to be wearing Pilgrim hats and Indian headbands and meet to "feast!" Since next week is a two day week, we will NOT have a spelling test or new popcorn words. Next Tuesday will be our Super Tiger Assembly at 2:30. Please make sure to keep reading with your kiddos over the break! They have made such wonderful progress this quarter in reading and I can't wait to see them continue to grow as readers! Below are a few pictures of the kids testing out the dream catchers they made last week and making the Indian headbands for our Monday feast. Have a great weekend! We have enjoyed learning about Veterans this week in celebration of Veterans Day! We even wrote letters to family members of students in our class who have served or are currently serving in the military. This week we also began learning about the Native Americans. We read a book called The Legend of the Indian Paintbrush and did some painting of our own as the book described. We also learned about the history of the dream catcher and made one of our own. Next week we will continue to learn about the Native Americans, but also learn about Pilgrims and the Mayflower. In Math next week we will begin simple addition story problems. I will be giving students a pre-formative assessment on Monday to see what they already know. In Reading and Writing, we have been and will continue to focus on identifying the beginning, middle, and ending sounds in words, changing a consonant or vowel to make new words, blend and divide onset and rime, blending and dividing syllables, and recognizing and creating rhyming words. Our spelling words next week will be we, you, and, and go. When studying these words with your child, see if they are able to use them when writing a sentence.
If you ordered book from the Scholastic Book Order, they shipped today! We will hopefully receive them next week. Thank you to everyone who attended the 1st Art Walk at Willard North on Monday. Our school raised over $1,000! Super Tiger will be on Tuesday, November 25th. NOT on the 19th as I previously stated. Braylon will be our character kid of the month for being so caring! Other students will be recognized with power bands for academics, teamwork, and improvement. Have a wonderful weekend! Today in class we made this Venn diagram comparing me to Mrs. Twinkle from the book Chrysanthemum and the students learned some very exciting news! I'm sure they have shared with you by now, but to confirm, my husband and I are very excited to welcome our first child in May! This short week, we have been very productive and had a lot of fun! We created several art projects that will be a part of the silent auction at the Willard North Art Walk on Monday from 6:30-8. I have posted pictures of the kids art work below so you will get a sneak peak at our creations. The kids writing this week has been phenomenal as well. We combined some science and social studies topics found in our Weekly Readers and then expanded upon what we learned through our writing. In Math we have been reviewing teen numbers. Teen numbers are hard to grasp. We are still working on counting a set of objects in the teens and creating or matching an equal set. Next week, we will spend a couple more days on this as well and then we will move on to simple addition when the students are ready. In writing next week, we will be focusing on conventions and sentence writing. We will really be working on starting each sentence with an upper case letter, putting appropriate spaces between words, and then ending the sentence with a punctuation mark. Our theme for the next two weeks will be Indians, Pilgrims, and Thanksgiving. We have several fun and exciting projects planned for our "theme time" over the next two weeks! Our spelling words next week will be my, with, and, go. Please be practicing these words with your student at home throughout the week! I have Scholastic Book Orders for November, but I'm only going to send them home upon request. Since we just had the Book Fair, I was unsure how many families would be interested in ordering. If you would like a book order, email me and I will send one home with your child on Monday or you are welcome to go online and order. Our class code is GNMDD. I would like to have all orders in by Tuesday the 11th so books will be in by Thanksgiving Break. I will also be sending December book orders home before break as well so we can be sure to get those books in before Christmas. I have your child's school pictures in as well and will be sending those home on Monday. Important Dates for November: 10th- Veteran's Day Assembly 1:45 Art Walk from 6:30-8 11th- Book Orders Due 19th- Super Tiger Assembly 20th- Picture Retakes 26th-28th- Thanksgiving Break I think that's all for now! Have a great weekend and I hope to see you at the Art Walk! |
