Today your child will be bringing home their school box which has magically been transformed into a treasure box for them to keep at home. There is a note explaining "Book Treasures" in their take home folder. I am so excited about these treasures! My hope is that this activity will really bring stories to life for the kids and help them to create a love for learning as well as build reading comprehension skills like retelling. Please let me know if you have any questions after you receive the note explaining Book Treasures. If your child has a hard time remembering the story even with their treasure, I will post a video or voice recording of the story of the week on our blog under the Book Treasures tab on our blog!
Next week we will be continuing our Alphabet Unit. We will be reading alphabet stories, making group ABC charts, rainbow writing the alphabet, playing alphabet matching games, and more!
In writing, we will be introducing the author's chair and charting what good writers do! We will also be doing activities with the books Strega Nona and Animal Stackers that focus on ideas in writing. In Daily 5, we will begin Work on Writing and continue to build our stamina!
In math, we will continue to record data and introduce games such as Grab and Count and Roll and Record.
Thank you for responding so quickly to the note regarding our upcoming Apple Unit! I will send a note home with your child next Friday letting you know specifically what would be most helpful for your student to donate!
One final thing! :) I am posting the video that was playing during Open House in case you did not get a chance to view the whole thing! Have a GREAT weekend!
