I cannot believe the last day of school is already here! It has been a GREAT year! I am going to miss this group of kids so very much! I love their energy, their kind hearts, and their work ethic. They are going to wonderful things in the future! Yoga Day was a blast! Before I sign off for the year, I wanted to share one last set of pictures with you! Thank you all so much for all you have done to help your child be successful and have FUN this year! I hope you all have a WONDERFUL summer!!! Phew! It's been a whirl-wind of a week, but we are working hard until the very end! Our Step Up to First Grade Math has been no joke. We're adding 3 numbers, finding the missing addens, and counting to 100 by 5's. We've also been working hard on our frog life cycle book. We had a blast making solar ovens with our reading buddies and using them to make s'mores! Next week we will be doing some end of the year writing. We will continue our Step Up Math as long as possible as well! Tuesday the 22nd will be our eXtra Special Awards Ceremony. It will start at 10:30 and end at our lunch time at 11. The kids have made awards for each other that they will present. We have also made a short video and I have awards to pass out as well. Come and join us if you can! On Wednesday, Yoga Day, we have a certified Yoga Instructor coming in to do 30 minutes of Yoga with the kids. This is always a TON of fun! On Thursday, our last day of school and Z day, I have scheduled the Zoo to come in a teach a class called Fur, Feathers, and Scales in the morning. Then before lunch, we are having a Summer Jam Party with Mrs. Hambey and the other Kindergarten and First Grade classes. Then for lunch on the last day, Aiden's Papa has graciously offered to bring in PIZZA from Pizza Hut for one last big HOORAH! So, on the last day, you will not have to pack your student a lunch unless he or she does not like pizza. :) We will also be dismissing at 12:30 on this day. We have a big, busy, FUN week ahead! I have enjoyed these kiddos so much and am looking forward to our last week as a Kindergarten class! Have a great weekend! We had a BLAST today at Field Day! I tried to snap a few pictures to share with you all. This week we worked hard on projects for our wonderful Mothers! I hope everything makes it home in one piece ;) Next week we will still be learning about Frogs and their life cycle. We will be reviewing the different types of writing we've learned throughout the year and tie those in with our frog theme. In Math we will continue to practice 1st grade skills in our Step Up to First Grade Lessons. We are almost to the end of the year! Tuesday, May 22nd will be our eXtra Special Award Ceremony in our classroom. We will begin at 10:30 and it will probably last until we go to lunch at 11. Join us if you can! We've been observing our caterpillars, which are now almost all in their chrysalises, and writing about what all we have learned about butterflies over the last two weeks! We've made ice cream sundaes (and wrote a how-to), put together jigsaw puzzles, lots of Koo Koo Kangaroos, and eaten far too many lollipops! Next week we will be working on some projects for Mother's Day and Mother's Day writing for all of you wonderful mommas out there! We also also begin our two week unit on Frogs. We will continue with our Step Up to first grade lessons in Math. I will be sending some of the worksheets home so you as parents can see what to expect next year. Again, this homework is optional. Friday, May 11th is FIELD DAY! The location has been changed due to the construction on the football field so we will now be having Field Day at the soccer field. We will ride a bus over there to eat lunch around 11:30. I will be sending home 2 notes today; one is to let me know if your child will be bringing a sack lunch from home or if they will need a school sack lunch and the other is for the Kona Ice truck that will be there on Field Day. If you will be purchasing Kona Ice for your child please send in money before Field Day. I will keep a list of who has paid and this will make things go smoother on Field Day. If you send a sack lunch from home, please make sure everything can be thrown away. We will be playing games after we eat and unable to carry around lunch boxes. Parents are welcome to join us there! What a fun week we've had beginning our butterfly unit and counting down the last days of school with our ABC Countdown! There are lots of pictures below of some of our fun activities! Next week we will continue to study and observe the life cycle of butterflies. We will also be comparing living and non living things. In Math, we will review shapes and measuring and begin our FINAL Math Topic in Kindergarten, Step up to 1st Grade. Step up to 1st Grade will review addition and subtraction prepare the students for the year to come! We will be reviewing different types of writing and sticking to our butterfly theme. We enjoyed pretending to be the Lorax, persuading others to take care of the Earth, and going on a nature walk. Next week we will begin a 2 week unit on Butterflies. We will be learning about the life cycle of a butterfly and experience this first hand! We will be observing a butterflies life cycle in our classroom! In Math next week we will be starting Topic 13, Measuring. Our ABC Countdown has officially begun so don't forget to check out that Calendar each day! I will see you all tonight at the Music Program! We wrote Spring poems and learned about Spring through our 5 senses.
Next week our theme is Earth Day, and we will be learning about how to take care of the Earth. We will be reading the Lorax and other Earth Day books. We will be writing about how we can do our part to take care of the Earth. We will also be going on a Nature Walk! In Math, we are moving on to Topic 12, 2-D and 3-D shapes. I want to make this topic more hands-on so you will most likely not be seeing worksheets come home next week. Instead, I would like you to help your child find the 3-D shapes we will be learning about around your house and have them bring in to share with the class each day. Here is the "Shape Schedule:" Monday- sphere, Tuesday- cube, Wednesday- cylinder, Thursday- cone, and Friday- pyramid. Thank you in advance for participating! If you ever can't find one, don't worry about it! The pyramid is always a little tricky. :) Field Day T-shirt order forms went home yesterday. Field Day will be on Friday, May 11th. We will be bused over to the High School football field around 11 to eat lunch and then relays and games will be from 12-2. Come and join us if you'd like! We'd love to have you join in the fun! If you are wanting or needing to sign your child up for summer school please make sure to do that ONLINE through the district's website. Even if you signed a form with me during Parent Teacher Conferences you still have to sign up online! I want to thank ALL the parents who took time out of their busy schedules to come in and share with the students. Having visitors really makes this unit so meaningful to the kids! We learned about many other jobs like doctors, vets, police officers, and librarians. The kids did a lot of opinion writing this week explaining why they would or would not like certain jobs. Next week our theme will be Spring. In Writing we will be doing a variety of informative and narrative writings about Spring. We will also be learning about the difference in living and nonliving things. In Math we will continue Topic 11, Counting to 100. So far we've heard from our Cook here at school, a Parks and Rec Administrator, a Firefighter, a Banker, and our Custodian. The students have been asking great questions and learning so much about different careers. We're looking forward to our visitors next week! Check out our pictures below! This week we finished up our Topic 10 Math Assessment and ended the week with Jelly Bean measuring! Next week we will begin Topic 11, Count Numbers to 100. In Writing next week we will be writing informative and persuasive pieces about different jobs. We had so much fun learning about space this week! We made constellations, took a 3D adventure through space, and wrote persuasive letters to parents asking to let us go to the moon! It's been a great week!
Next week we will begin our 2 week unit on Occupations. I have several parent visitors and community members lined up to come in and share with us about their jobs over the next two weeks. If you still would like to come in and share with our class, send me an email and I will fit you in! Next week we will be wrapping up Topic 10 in Math, Compose and Decompose Teen Numbers. We will take our assessment on Wednesday and then enjoy some Jelly Bean Math on Thursday! In Writing next week we will be writing persuasive and opinion pieces about different jobs. Parent Teacher Conferences are THIS Tuesday and Thursday. I am sending home official times TODAY so be on the look out for those. If you did not send back the note requesting a certain time, I assigned you one. If this time does not work PLEASE let me know so we can reschedule.
